Upon Fenrir's departure Nissa was assigned a new scouting partner. Scouts always patrolled in pairs, if something or someone presented a high threat to Sylvas or the forest scout groups of 4 or 5 people were organised. Currently, however, the forest had been quiet. There had been no new newcomers for weeks now. Nissa, despite her protests, had been lumbered with a fairly new scout whose knowledge and fighting skills were minimal at best.
As the days went past Nissa reluctantly accepted that she had no choice in the matter. Nissa took solace from jumping through the treetops and reliving past memories. She never gave the new scout much thought, she certainly hadn't wanted him and in turn the new scout and began to dislike her.
Nissa shrugged and looked down from the branch she was perched on, 'Scouting partners don't have to like each other' she thought smugly to herself. Thankfully for her new partner it was their day off and Nissa had taken herself into the forest to relax. Nissa launched herself out of the tree and gracefully dived towards the ground. She trusted her abilities and knew the forest well enough not to give this move any second thought.
Nissa grabbed a vine that dangled from the lower branches of the tree and swung herself upwards, back into the treetops. From there she moved speedily through the trees, to any onlooker it would seem like Nissa was gliding along the branches, her feet never touching the same branch for more than a few seconds.
It was a fair time before Nissa stopped, breathing heavily she noticed how far she had travelled and was impressed. She remembered how her and Fenrir used to race like that, it was always a close race but more often than not Fenrir won. Nissa sighed contently as she reminisced.
Nissa was just about to relax in one of the trees when something made her senses stand on edge, Nissa felt uneasy but she couldn't figure out why. There was no one around, the forest sang its normal song, everything seemed as it should be. Not satisfied Nissa travelled through the treetops trying to find the source of her uneasiness. It didn't take her too long to find. Nissa gasped as a wave of nausea swept over her. She couldn't believe what she saw, she desperately wanted not to trust her eyes.
The forest scene before Nissa was surrounded by decay, every tree was either dead or dying. Nothing natural could scar the forest this badly, especially since the forest was protected by those in Sylvas. 'How had no one noticed this?' Nissa wondered.
Nissa's sense of duty and concern wiped out all unnecessary thoughts, she had to report this to the scout captain and the elder at Sylvas. With one last look at the devastation Nissa sprang through the trees, heading for Sylvas as fast as she could.
